Again.
At least this time we're at home like we should have been last year.
The most amusing part was the HUGE post-game tribute to the Metrodome. Kept talking about "hey, we're leaving! We're done! You know, except for Tuesday. And maybe the playoffs. Bye!"
Yeah, I think I'd marry him.
I'm lovin' me some Joe Mauer this month.
He's retired.
He's released.
He's not retired.
They're not interested.
They're meeting him in his hometown to see if he's interested.
He's calling them to tell them he's retired.
He's mailing them the x-rays of his shoulder to find out if he's good to play.
The Favre-to-the-Vikings Soap Opera is getting... Good Lord, it's all that can be talked about around here.
Best part? Poor Sid can't get his homerism beacon right:
May 7: If healthy, the former Packers QB would improve the team on the field and, as important, on the bottom line.
May 8: Favre unneeded with Rosenfels in Vikings' fold
When the word is that it's going to happen, he's for it. When the word is that it's off, he's against it. What does he write tomorrow?
Oh, god, only a few more days.
A few more days and I'll be able to listen to our sports talk station without hearing endless Draft Speculation.
Yes, it is a capitalized phrase in their world.
Meanwhile, did I mention I finished chapter 17 last night?
No?
I finished chapter 17 last night.
Yet here I sit...
So first our hockey team's coach resigns. Then our GM gets let go.
Meanwhile our basketball team needs a new GM, will probably get a new head coach, and has three first round picks to play with.
Next winter's going to be WEIRD in Minnesota.
It's tough to forget that he ran the lowest payroll in the majors despite being its richest owner. Tough to forget that he tried to move the team to Virginia. And VERY tough to forget that he volunteered to disband the team when the league was debating contraction.
Too bad that the Twins don't play until tonight. I was looking forward to listening to the game at work.
Next year.... No way in hell they're opening the season in the new park at night.
Was going to audition for a show tonight, but will be moving it to tomorrow night because of this. The theatre's blocks from the Metrodome, and traffic's gonna be a nightmare.
But the new thing that got me really excited?
The foul poles are in. Painted yellow and everything.
I should really bring a camera and post some pictures. For, you know, the two people on this blog who would possibly care.
I have Memphis, North Carolina, and Pittsburgh in the Final Four.
So does almost everyone else.
The fourth team, Wake Forest, lost in the first round.
*shreds bracket*
That was probably the fastest I've ever been eliminated.
I'm going to see a play with my friend Jenn tonight. It should be a good time, although it means I get to watch Dollhouse online tomorrow instead of live.
And from all indications, if you haven't watched the show, or watched it and are kinda meh about it, tonight's the night that it's getting good: Joss's first episode since the pilot, and the critics are going crazy about it.
So that should be fun.
Birthday stuff with the fam tomorrow, new chapter posting tomorrow. That's about it.
Which is good, because I've had the most frustrating afternoon of my career.
EDIT: Whew. Close call there. 1 for 3 so far, but both of those losses weren't making it past the next round anyway.
The first two days of March Madness.
32 basketball games over two days.
Bracket watching.
Or bracket shredding as your Final Four picks lose in the first round.
It is AWESOME.
Thankfully it's not due until Wednesday afternoon.
Initial thoughts:
- Someone please talk me out of putting Villanova in the championship game. I kinda trust North Carolina, but not THAT much... Seriously, I wish I could talk myself into NC losing early
- I have to keep telling myself that the Big Ten's not that good. I have two B10 teams (Mich St and Purdue) in the Elite Eight, and three in the Sweet Sixteen.
- No, Minnesota's not one of those three. Even if we make it past Texas, there's no way we're beating Duke in a Greensboro "neutral site" game. Its effectively a Gophers' road game.
- Speaking of home games, someone please talk me out of ND State beating Kansas in the first round. They're playing it in Minneapolis, and there will be a huge Fargo contingent here. Plus there has been a lot of media attention given to NDSU around the Cities, so I think a lot of locals will be rooting for them.
- Louisville beats Memphis, then beats 'Nova in the championship. Its a comfortable pick, I know, but it feels good for now.
- I have two days to change my mind. I intend to use them.
For the first time since 1961, the Twins have hired a groundskeeper.
